Mining for Gold?

Just had an idea and thought I would throw it out there. I remember in Ultima VII they had Gold Nuggets that you could find and trade in for gold. Well on a kind of twist of that idea.
How 'bout we have gold nuggets that when smelted create gold ingots. Instead of the 1:1 for iron ore and such have it be for example a 10:1 ratio kind of like for obsidian. Except have it be a lot more rare than sand. *grins* More like how you get the occasional rock you could get the occasional gold nugget.
