Some weird happenings

The Ent had been wondering all afternoon looking for its next human to snack on. It passed the town, with a weird looking purplish wooden oval object with a marking on it, and made its way southwest where it knew it could find its next meal. As it watched a woman walk slowly through the dense forest it noticed something just past her, something big and somewhat shiny. It was weary at first but soon its curiosity got the best of it and inched its way for a closer look.
It stood very still and watched as a young lad sat speaking to an odd figure, something that the old tree had never seen, a creature rather disturbing even for the ent to look at. The ent gripped the soil with it roots and dug in, thinking that the two had not seen it. The young man stood from the rock where he had set talking to the creature and headed back towards the town that was near. As he took his first step the creature made a noise, a noise that must have startled the ent, and brang it from hiding. Swiftly the creature had the ent near death and chased it off back into the woods.
The young man returned to the creature and seemed to apply something to one of its limbs, comforting it as he chanted something under his breathe. Not long after the young man stood up from his knee and the creature vanished, into thin air. The young man seemed to have a somewhat confused look on his face, it seemed he was unsure of what exactly it was that just happened. He seemed to have some kind of control over the creature but didnt seem to know how or why. What was it this young man possessed, or what was it that drew this creature to him?
